It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Amber Boyd, District Captain of the Rockyview Métis District of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government — a leader, a colleague, a mentor, and a friend — who passed from cancer far too soon. Amber carried her title with humility, but she carried her responsibilities with unwavering strength. As District Captain, she was deeply committed to the people she served and to the principles of Métis self-governance. She believed that leadership was not about position or authority, but about service, listening, and doing the hard work even when it was unseen. Throughout her professional life, Amber demonstrated a rare combination of determination and compassion. She was a tireless advocate for Métis citizens, working to strengthen district governance, improve collaboration, and ensure that Métis voices were not only heard, but respected. She approached challenges thoughtfully, always seeking solutions rooted in fairness, transparency, and community well-being. Amber’s achievements were not measured solely in meetings chaired, policies advanced, or initiatives completed — though there were many. Her true impact was felt in the way she made people feel seen, supported, and encouraged. She had a way of bringing people together, of finding common ground even in difficult conversations, and of reminding us why the work mattered. Her courage was perhaps most evident in the way she faced her illness. Even as cancer tested her body, it never diminished her spirit. She continued to care deeply about her community and her colleagues, showing resilience, grace, and an unshakeable commitment to others. In doing so, she taught us one final, powerful lesson about strength. Amber leaves behind a legacy of leadership grounded in integrity and heart. Her contributions to the Otipemisiwak Métis Government will endure, but so too will the memories of her kindness, her dedication, and her belief in the people around her. We mourn her loss deeply, but we are grateful — grateful for her service, grateful for her example, and grateful for the time we were given to know her. Rest in peace, Amber. You will be remembered, you will be missed, and your legacy will live on in the people and communities you helped shape. Funeral will be held at 1:00pm, Sunday, January 25th, 2026, in Cochrane, AB in the Legacy Hall of the Cochrane Lions Club and event Centre, 109 – 5th Avenue, Cochrane, AB, T4C 0A4 Further information on her service can be found at https://www.mhfh.com/obituaries/Amber-Dawn-Boyd-Nee-Macpherson?obId=46968917 |
