District Captain
AMBER BOYD, BSc, EPC, RPR DISTRICT CAPTAIN, OTIPEMISIWAK METIS GOVERNMENT - ROCKY VIEW METIS DISTRICT Amber is the District Captain of the Rocky View Métis District for the Otipemisiwak Métis Government (previously known as the Métis Nation of Alberta), and is also a Board member of the Indigenous Editors Association. She represents her nation on the Indigenous Advisory Circle for Banff National Park and previously worked supporting Indigenous Peoples when she was the Executive Director for the Verna J. Kirkness Education Foundation and as Senior Account Manager for Spirit Staffing. When not working at her day job, this Métis writer can usually be found tapping the keys of her sticker-covered laptop, crafting her latest bewitching tale. A few of Amber’s short stories have appeared in Amazon’s number one best-selling anthology, Above and Beneath, and some of her other stories have won or been short-listed for literary awards. With her Bachelor of Science in Psychology, HR Certificate, and Creative Writing Certificate already completed, she is now working toward finishing her MFA in Creative Writing at UBC. Her memoir Blood, Bannock, and Bead is to be released in 2025 with Greystone Books. While she’s a writer, she’s also an artist who enjoys painting, beading, and creating works of art. Amber is a member of the Wasakamapiwak Wearable Art Collective, and her artwork and photography have appeared in numerous Indigenous art exhibitions in the Calgary, Cochrane, and Airdrie area. She owns two business and lives in Cochrane, Alberta, with her husband, two kids, and infamous black cats. |

TREVOR WARD, TREASURER and DISTRICT COUNCILLOR OTIPEMISIWAK METIS GOVERNMENT - ROCKY VIEW METIS DISTRICT Trevor grew up in the small rural community of Tulliby Lake, Alberta, and his roots run deep in Métis upbringing. For the past 20-plus years, he has lived east of Calgary on a rural property where he enjoys passing along what it means to be Métis to his three children. He brings a wealth of knowledge and entrepreneurial experience from running the small business he owns over the past 17 years to our council. He has also served on numerous executive boards for organizations such as 4-H Alberta, schools, and sports councils. He currently sits on the Indigenous Committee at the school where he works with special needs children and enjoys sharing our Métis culture with students of all ages. Trevor’s goal is to help build a strong and vibrant community, and he feels it is both an honour and a privilege to serve the Rocky View Métis community. He is committed to actively seeking your input on where you think the District Council of Rocky View Métis District should focus its time and effort. |
ALANA NEWTON, SECRETARY and DISTRICT COUNCILLOR OTIPEMISIWAK METIS GOVERNMENT - ROCKY VIEW METIS DISTRICT Alana is married and has two children and four grandchildren and is retired. Her forty-five-year career has spanned both commercial and non-profit management, where she has honed her strengths in governance and organization. Alana's experience also includes serving as the Town Manager of Longview, where she gained valuable expertise in government relations. Proud of her Métis lineage, which traces back to Cuthbert Grant Senior. Her family names include Daughinais, Breland, L’Homme and Grant. Alana is committed to working collaboratively with all the District Councillors to ensure the best outcomes for Rocky View Métis District and is also dedicated to supporting Citizen's Representative, Lisa San Filippo and District Captain, Amber Boyd in their roles. |
DONAVAN TAYLOR, DISTRICT COUNCILLOR OTIPEMISIWAK METIS GOVERNMENT - ROCKY VIEW METIS DISTRICT Donavan is a devoted husband and proud father of two young boys. He is an outdoor enthusiast and enjoys hunting, camping and exploring the natural beauty of Alberta with his loved ones. Donavan has lived his entire life within the Rocky View Métis District, and his family has a rich history within Alberta, dating back generations. His Métis ancestral names include Bruneau, Lussier, Calder, Parisien, Vaness (Anas), Comptois, Fagnant, and Cardinal. After completing his Journeyman Instrumentation Technician program at SAIT, Donavan established a successful career in the oil and gas industry, specializing in Instrumentation Technology. Committed to giving back to his community, Donavan volunteers as a firefighter with his local Fire Department and contributes to wildlife conservation efforts through the Drumheller District Fish and Game Association. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Alberta Wildlife Federation as Director of Zone 2. His journey of reconnecting with his Métis heritage has been transformative, and he is excited to pay it forward. He is excited to be part of Rocky View Métis District Council to support and empower others in the Métis community. |
ADRIAN PRUDEN, TREASURER and DISTRICT COUNCILLOR OTIPEMISIWAK METIS GOVERNMENT - ROCKY VIEW METIS DISTRICT Adrian Pruden is a proud Metis citizen, husband, and father to three beautiful children. His Metis roots come from family Patriarch John Peter Pruden, and Matriarch Nancy/Patasegawisk (Swampy Cree). John Peter Pruden was a Chief Factor of the Hudson Bay Co. and has been credited with the naming of the City of Edmonton. He was also placed in charge of Acton House in the early 1800's, which ultimately became Rocky Mountain House. Adrian is the Vice-President of Pentagon Freight Services Canada Ltd., an International Logistics company providing domestic and international transport solutions to the Oil & Gas, Energy, Mining, and Agricultural sectors and will celebrate 25 years with the company in 2025. He is an acting board member of numerous charitable groups providing strong leadership and support in several areas. Recipient of this year’s King Charles III Coronation Medal, honored with Knighthood in the Order of St. George in 2020, and the 2019 recipient of the Metis Nation of Alberta Humanitarian award for his supporting works of charity. Adrian is a proud family man who embraces his Metis roots and looks forward to representing the voices of the citizens of Rocky View Métis District. |
